“Longer than you wish, sooner than you think.”
I was driving 65 mph on the 110 when I heard this today, and laughed aloud. My daughters promptly reminded me that I had laughed at the same quote last week–which I had. See, we are listening to Pilgrim’s Progress as we drive to Shakespeare class each week, but we’re not always good at remembering what chapter we’re on, and I don’t fuss with the phone once we’re moving…so this week we heard the same episode as last week.
And that’s how life is, isn’t it? The same chapter, again and again, until suddenly it’s not. Sooner than you think. Prayers for personal growth, for revival in the church, for health, for sleep–they start to seem like they will never be answered, until one day you realize they are, and looking back they seem to have come so soon. “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness” (2 Peter 3:9). Keep driving.
